The W800 is designed to be simple, straightforward, and mostly to play nice. In fact, it’s so well-mannered that I could easily recommend it as a starter bike. Think about it: it’s easy to maneuver and easy to control which also makes it easy to learn on without being overwhelmed.

The W800 is an easy motorcycle to love, unless you ride on rain-grooved freeways daily. We think that’s a fixable problem, and the rest of the package is so spot-on that it is worth a bit of tinkering. Certainly, it requires far fewer modifications than an actual 1960s motorcycle.

Satisfactions. I don’t use the W800 for commuting or footwork, but mainly for touring, and the best thing is to feel the pulse of the two-cylinder while riding down the road. It may be said to be inefficient, but it is 800cc, and it is enough for the need.

Gotta love the aesthetic of an air-cooled twin.

What is the ride quality of the BMW W800?
The best word to describe the W800’s ride quality is plush. The polished 39mm front forks have enough travel and stiffness to absorb most of what it has to deal with, even a corrugated section of tarred road north of Pretoria which surprised me at 130km/h was no problem.
