A child or young person has special educational needs and disabilities if they have a learning difficulty and/or a disability that means they need special health and education support, we shorten this to SEND.

What is the difference between SEN and Ehcp?
Special educational provision is anything that “educates or trains” your child. This could be anything from individual support to speech and language therapy. EHCPs are there to support children who have needs that SEN support cannot meet.
How do you prepare for Ofsted deep dive?
You prepare for a deep dive in much the same way you’ve prepared for Ofsted school inspections in the past; keep your books up to scratch for work scrutinies, make sure you’re following your School Improvement Plan (SIP), and have an idea of your department’s wider strategy and curriculum intent.
What is the graduated approach to send?
This SEN support takes the form of a four-part cycle (assess, plan, do, review). Through this cycle, actions are reviewed and refined as understanding of a student’s needs and the support required to help them secure good outcomes increases. This is known as the graduated approach.
Is an Ehcp the same as an IEP?
The main difference between the IEP and EHCP is that the school entirely determines the IEP and the law determines the EHCP. An EHCP can provide for additional funding from the local authority to support the child’s needs beyond the amount a school must supply out of its own budget.
Is ADHD classed as a disability?
It’s possible for a child suffering from attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) to be classed as disabled and so to be entitled to a statement of special educational needs. As such, your son could be entitled to Disability Living Allowance (DLA).
