What is the Copes program in Washington state?
COPES, for short, is a Washington State Medicaid (Apple Health) waiver program designed to enable individuals who require nursing home level care, to receive that care in their home or alternative care environment, such as an assisted living residence.
How do you qualify for copes?
To qualify for COPES, you must need extensive help with two or more of the listed activities of daily living, or at least some help with three or more. A person who needs supervision because of a cognitive impairment may qualify for COPES if extensive help with one of the listed activities is needed.
How do I get copes?
People on COPES can choose to receive services either in their own homes or move to state licensed Assisted Living Facilities or Adult Family Homes. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) administers the COPES program through the division of Home and Community Services (HCS).
