The IROC-Z model was introduced in 1985 as the highest performing Camaro. A new V8 engine option, optional on the IROC-Z, bumped maximum horsepower in a Camaro up to 215. Slight redesigns like new front bumpers distinguish the 1985 models from other third generation models before them.

They would all get new front bumpers, but the Z28 and the newly introduced Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z28 also had extended and redesigned ground effects, a new hood, new taillights, and a new rear bumper to accomodate the valances. The NACA style hood ducts were replaced by simulated hood louvers.
