The oak tree, which is over 200 years old, has since been known as “Charter Oak”, and has been recognised as one of the Great Trees of London. It is a central feature of the park, and is also featured on the London Borough of Bexley coat of arms. The tree is now enclosed to protect its root system.

Is Danson swing park open?
Just remember that this area of the park is only open from May to September. This is a great local spot which was made for lazy Sundays. Kids love the play frame with ladders to hang from, slides to fly down and great, big tyre swings!
Are fairground rides safe?
A trip to the fair is in fact a very safe activity. You are actually more likely to be injured travelling to the fair than at it. Nevertheless modern fairground rides can be large, powerful and capable of carrying many passengers.

Accessibility: There is limited parking on site near to the children’s’ play area and an accessible toilet with a small ramp next to the car park’s disability space for blue badge users for whom parking is free of charge. The car park is tarmac and level.

The house is now owned by English Heritage on a 999-year lease from 1997, and will eventually be managed by a trust. It is open to the public on selected viewing days. The estate’s stable block is now a public house, the Danson Stables.

What is the Danson Festival at Bexley?

Why is there a tree in Bexley Park?
The tree was part of the Danson Mansion estate and now provides a central feature to the park scene. It was under this tree on 30 September 1937 that Lord Cornwallis presented the Charter which elevated Bexley from an Urban District Council to a Municipal Borough.
