I have visited Minterne garden many times over the years, and always been very impressed. Unfortunately this time was different. I have a young dog who we decided to take, as it says dogs are welcome on leads. Thankfully I have lots of happy memories and photographs of Minterne gardens as we won’t be going there again.

PRINCIPAL BUILDING Minterne House (listed Grade II*) is situated in the northern section of the park, with the pleasure grounds stretching out to its south and east. The house, built of Ham Hill stone, was constructed in 1904-6 to designs by Leonard Stokes.

Sherborne Castle remains the family home of the Wingfield Digby Family. Sherborne in Dorset has had a castle since the 12th Century. In 1617 the diplomat Sir John Digby acquired Sherborne Castle and he added four wings to Raleigh’s building, giving the house its present H-shape.

Are the gardens at Minterne closed for a wedding?
This Saturday 4th September there will be wedding bells at Minterne and so the terrace will be closed. The gardens remain open but please do follow the grass route running alongside the terrace as opposed to walking through the terrace itself as wedding guests will be making use of this space.
Are there any paintings still at Minterne?
