How do I choose a jewelry torch?
The two main things to consider are your budget and the size flame you need for your designs. If you are constantly soldering larger cuffs for example, you will probably like an acetylene tank. If you are working on rings and pendants and working within a budget then a butane torch could be a perfect solution for you!

To prevent flashbacks, flashback arrestors must be installed on the outlets of both regulators, and/or torch inlets.
Can you light an acetylene torch with a lighter?
For my jeweler’s acetylene torch, I use a desktop striker that makes a spark when you touch it with the torch tip. You can use a match or cigarette lighter to light a torch, but I find these strikers much safer. You can keep your fingers and hand further away from the gas when it ignites.
