What does Space Florida do?
A GLOBAL LEADER IN AEROSPACE RESEARCH, INVESTMENT, EXPLORATION AND COMMERCE. Space Florida was created as an independent special district that uniquely serves as the single point of contact for all space-related functions of the State of Florida, and serves the civil, military and commercial sectors.

It was selected for two reasons: the fact that it is relatively near to the equator compared with other U.S. locations; and the fact that it is on the East Coast. An East Coast location was desirable because any rockets leaving Earth’s surface and traveling eastward get a boost from the Earth’s west-to-east spin.
