Did SGU lose their accreditation?
Dear RUSM Students, As you may be aware, St. George’s University (SGU) in Grenada is no longer accredited with the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP). This has caused several students to ask about our own accreditation.
Is SGU accredited?
The SGUSOM is accredited by the Grenada Medical and Dental Council (GMDC), which is recognized as a comparable accrediting agency by the U.S. National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA), satisfying a prerequisite for SGUSOM to participate in this federal student loan program.
Is SGU pass or fail?
George’s University students continue to flourish on the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 1 exam, with first-time takers registering a 94 percent pass rate in 2019. The more than 1,250 SGU students taking the exam for the first time hailed from 48 countries over six continents.
What is AEP SGU?
AEP is a program for the students of SGU; it requires that one night a week, you attend an AEP session. At AEP, you have 1-2 peers, that are ahead of you in the program, guiding you through your first term of med school.

SGU is the number one international source of US doctors, taking all schools around the world into account. It’s also the second largest provider of doctors to the entire healthcare system in the US, according to an article in the Journal of Medical Regulation.
Why are Caribbean medical schools bad?
Caribbean med schools have a bad reputation because they accept students who are unprepared for the rigors of medical school. As a result, they tend to have high attrition rates, poor USMLE pass rates, and poor residency match rates.
Which is better AUC or SGU?
In addition, AUC also has the highest USMLE Step I pass rate among the Big 3 schools, at 94% (the same as US schools), whereas SGU’s pass rate is 91%. Other people may like SGU because it is larger, more well-known, or more clinical location choices (to accomodate their larger student body).
