What is Geltrex?
Geltrex™ is a reduced growth factor basement membrane extract used for attachment and maintenance of human embryonic stem cells (hESCs) and human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs). Especially when cells are grown with StemPro media, cell culture dishes should be coated with Geltrex.
Is Geltrex the same as Matrigel?
GFR = growth factor reduced. hESC-qualified = doesn’t cause human embryonic stem cell differentiation. Phenol red = phenol red tracks the acidity/alkalinity of your cells. It commonly found in cell media….Similarities.

How to use Geltrex?
Mix Geltrex by slowly pipetting solution up and down; be careful not to introduce air bubbles. Place 150-200 µl per cm2 onto the growth surface. Place coated object at 37°C for 30 minutes. Coated objects are ready for use.
What is Ldev free Matrigel?
Corning™ Matrigel™ Basement Membrane Matrix, LDEV-Free is tumor rich in extracellular matrix proteins, including Laminin (a major component), Collagen IV, heparin sulfate proteoglycans, entactin/nidogen, and a number of growth factors.
What is Geltrex made of?
The major components of Geltrex™ matrix include laminin, collagen IV, entactin, and heparin sulfate proteoglycans.
How do you use Matrigel?
Add 200 μL of Matrigel matrix (8 to 11 mg/mL) into each well of a pre-chilled 24-well plate, spread evenly with a pipet tip, and then incubate at 37°C for 30 min. to allow the Matrigel matrix to gel. Note: All cultureware or media coming in contact with Matrigel matrix should be pre-chilled/ice-cold.
What is the purpose of Matrigel?
Matrigel has been used in various in vitro assays for angiogenesis, cell invasion, spheroid formation, organoid formation from a single cell, etc. In vivo Matrigel improves/promotes tumor xenograft growth and is used to measure angiogenesis, improve heart and spinal cord repair, increase tissue transplant take, etc.
How do you store Geltrex?
For long term storage, seal each dish with parafilm to minimize dehydration of the Geltrex solution. The coated dish is stable for two weeks when stored at 2 to 8°C. Do not allow coated surface to dry out and maintain a storage temperature of 2 to 8°C to avoid premature gelling.
How do you make Matrigel?
How is Matrigel made?
Corning Matrigel matrix is a reconstituted basement membrane extracted from EHS mouse tumor. When the material is extracted from the tumor, it contains laminin, collagen IV, entactin, heparan sulfate proteoglycan, and growth factors that occur naturally in the EHS tumor.
How long is Matrigel good for?
Storage of Matrigel® Coated Plates Coated plates can be stored at 2-8 °C for up to one week (sealed with Parafilm™ to prevent dehydration) before use. Make sure that the fridge shelf is level as well.
What is geltrex ldev free?
Description Geltrex™ LDEV-Free Reduced Growth Factor Basement Membrane Matrix is a soluble form of basement membrane extracted from murine Engelbreth-Holm-Swarm (EHS) tumors and is free of viruses, including lactose dehydrogenase elevating virus (LDEV), sometimes found in this type of preparation.
What are the major components of geltrex?
The major components of Geltrex. ®. LDEV-Free hESC-qualified Matrix include laminin, collagen IV, entactin, and heparin sulfate proteoglycan which provide the foundation for three-dimensional (3D) cult ure studies. The extract gels at 37°C to form a reconstituted basement membrane.
Is GIBCO geltrex ready to use?
NEW Geltrex hESC-qualified Ready-To-Use! Gibco Geltrex hESC-qualified Ready-To-Use Reduced Growth Factor Basement Membrane Matrix is stored in the refrigerator (2–8°C) and comes ready to use, which means no thawing, diluting, or premature gelling. Ready.
What is the shelf life of geltrex™ matrix?
Geltrex™ LDEV-Free Reduced Growth Factor Basement Membrane Matric comes as a sterile protein solution in 1 mL vials. Store at -20 to -80°C. Geltrex™ Matrix is stable for 18 months from date of manufacture when properly stored. Find technical tips and troubleshooting recommendations from our scientists.
