Where does Edinburgh Fringe take place?
The Society’s permanent location is at the Fringe Shop on the Royal Mile, and in August they also manage Fringe Central, a separate collection of spaces in Appleton Tower and other University of Edinburgh buildings, dedicated to providing support for Fringe participants during their time at the festival.

How many people go to the Edinburgh Fringe?
In 2019, the Fringe sold more than three million tickets for 3,841 shows at 323 venues — an increase of 31 percent in five years. Independent researchers estimated that the event generated around $1.4 billion for Scotland’s economy.

1947 Festival Fringe emerges The Festival Fringe began when eight companies – six Scottish and two English – appeared uninvited in Edinburgh and staged their own shows alongside the new International Festival.
Where are the best comedy venues in Edinburgh?
Just the Tonic at the Tron is about 30 seconds from the Mile, and Just the Tonic at Caves is another a minute away on Cowgate, and a brand new space at Bristo Square called Medina. Rooms range from 60 to 150 capacity. Comedy shows are also included in the Edinburgh Comedy Festival programme.
