Are welded diffs safe?
Daily driving a welded differential isn’t the end of the world. but there are a lot of precautions and techniques that you should inform yourself with before starting your welded differential journey. What I could do now is tell you that a welded differential can be dangerous, and will wear the tires quickly.
What’s the point of a welded diff?
So an open differential allows the outer wheel to rotate faster, making for smooth cornering and therefore a more predictable result. If oversteer and drifting is your thing however, you will want that differential as locked as possible, hence the practice of welding it all together.
Is open diff good for drifting?
Drifting with an open differential is extremely dangerous. Attempting to drift with one will lead to one of three outcomes: One tire breaks traction, both tires break traction, or one tire breaks loose, and the second loses grip after.
Is a welded diff an MOT failure?

Applies lock when throttle is applied. Unlike a VSLD, this means that torque split can occur before one wheel reaches a different speed (similar to a locked differential). For one-way LSDs, the differential acts like an open diff when not on the gas, thus easily allowing for different wheel speeds while cornering.
What kind of rear diff do you use?
Mechanical 1.5 / 2 way LSDs are great and all, but even the V8 super cars here in AUS run a full spool rear diff (which is a locked diff) Welded or locked diff you know what will happen all the time every time. Both those wheels are gonna spin at the same time.
