Can orthotics make your feet worse?
Do Orthotics Weaken Feet? It’s a question that many foot health professionals and Pedorthists hear quite often. The short answer is no. There are no studies that indicate that the use of orthotics can cause long term or short-term weakness in the feet or legs.
How do you know if orthotics are too small?

How do you know if orthotics fit?
The firm part of your orthotic should sit solidly within your shoe, without tipping or rocking. The entire orthotic should feel securely fit within the shoe. If the fit isn’t quite right, don’t worry! Your Pedorthist will be able to fit your orthotics with just a simple adjustment.
Can orthotics be returned?
After the first 30 days you may return your orthotics for any reason and we will do everything possible to adjust or re-make the orthotics to your satisfaction. When you first begin to wear orthotics, your feet will experience subtle, yet distinct changes.

Stress from orthotics can actually lead to weak ankles, feet or knees and cause additional foot pain. Furthermore, it’s difficult to get relief from orthotic inserts that weren’t made correctly. You may also suffer from sore muscles as your body attempts to adapt to the orthotics.

Do orthotics need to be worn all the time?
Before you get orthotics, you might expect that they’ll provide immediate relief, but in reality, they might feel strange or uncomfortable at first. In most cases, your body needs two to four weeks to become accustomed to any type of orthotics. That means you should plan to wear them regularly so your body can adjust.
Are orthotics supposed to hurt at first?
Is it OK to wear only one orthotic?
Most people experience pain in only their left or right foot (or heel or knee), not in both. However, you will still need to wear the orthotics in BOTH shoes, because wearing the orthotic in only one shoe will raise one side slightly and may put your body out of balance, causing your hips to be out of aligment.
What happens if I stop wearing my orthotics?
If you choose not to wear your orthotics, you will be further damaging your feet to the point where it could lead to serious health issues. For example, custom orthotics are able to restore joint alignment in order for the surrounding muscles and connective tissue to maintain their function.
