The KABAR TDI Law Enforcement Knife was designed by John Benner, founder of the Tactical Defense Institute. Designed as an “off hand” knife that can draws like a pistol, the reversible sheath can be worn on either the right or left side of the officer’s pant belt.
Is a Ka-bar worth it?
The Ka-Bar Becker BK2 is a phenomenal heavy bladed camp knife, and the TDI is a first rate self defense knife, both are definitely worth the money. For what? If you are not a USMC servicemember/veteran, than you’re probably better off with a whole lot of other nice knives that serve your purpose better.

All of the KA-BAR knives that have the classic oval-shaped handle (ie leather and Kraton) have a full length, narrow tang. The leather washers or Kraton handle is slid over the tang and a metal pommel is pressed onto the end of the tang.

5.0 out of 5 starsExcellent knife, can be modified to use the TDI holster click from the smaller TDI knife. Ok, I own the smaller Ka-Bar TDI also as my everyday carry knife. I am still evaluating the use of it’s larger cousin.
Are Kabar knives illegal?
Answer: As of May 2020, yes these are legal to carry in California, and as far as I know, in all counties and jurisdictions (due to its blade length). However, because it is a fixed blade, it meets the definition of dirks and daggers.
Why is Ka-bar so expensive?
A lot of the price comes from the brand. The knives themselves are just beefy pieces of machined steel. The craftsmanship needed is nowhere near that required of a good kitchen knife. They do their job but there’s no magic involved.
