How long is FDNY academy?
During your 18 weeks in the Training Academy, you will be required to demonstrate sufficient strength and stamina to accomplish entry-level Firefighter tasks. This process can be extremely difficult, and I strongly recommend that you begin your physical fitness training well before you enter the Training Academy.

The Fire Academy training is paid and lasts 16-18 weeks on a 4/10 schedule (four days a week, ten hours a day). Upon graduation, Fire Recruits are promoted to Firefighter and are assigned to a fire station for a probationary period of 2,912 scheduled hours.
