In contrast to the abundant water resources, the central portion of the Ocala is dry and sandy. n Many recreation areas prohibit the use of alcohol.

If You Go: Alexander Springs Recreation Area From Astor Park in the Ocala National Forest, take Highway 445 south for five and a half miles. Open Daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. The day use fee is $6. Canoes can be rented for use along Alexander Creek or for as little as two hours ($16) or $38 for the day.

Swimming in Alexander Springs You are allowed to bring your own floats to use in the water. It’s 72 degrees year-round, therefore it’s chilly to stay submerged for long periods of time. A float helps you stay in the sun, and be able to enjoy the beautiful water at the same time.

Are there grills at Alexander Springs?
After our nature walk it was the perfect time to set up near the springs and take a swim. They have bathrooms and changing areas, BBQ grills, picnic tables, benches, etc.
Can you swim in Juniper Springs?
You can Swim at Juniper Springs Juniper Springs is a natural, crystal clear pool in the middle of the forest. The swimming area is not very big, but it is deep. Remember, this spring is deep, there are steps into the water as well as a ledge around the entire swimming area.
Is Hopkins Prairie open?
Area Status: Open It sits right along the Florida Trail and offers opportunities for fishing and birding along miles of prairie shoreline. Firewood is available from the concessionaire and is cash only.
Are there manatees at Alexander Springs?
