The Staedtlers seem to run a couple of grades darker than Derwent. My Staedtler H pencil looks at least as dark as my Derwent HB. The difference in darkness from one grade to the next seems more linear in the Staedtlers. 2B is just a notch darker than B, and so on, very evenly.
