Is Meknes worth visiting?
Meknes itself is a very beautiful city but two locations just 40 minutes outside of the city are also totally worth visiting. These are the ancient city of Moulay Idriss and the Roman ruins of Volubilis. It’s possible to visit these two places back to back as they are located right next to each other.
How many days to spend in Meknes?
Avoid in Meknes Very long stays – Although Meknes is another imperial city, there is really not much to do. A day trip to the city is actually more than enough, but if you want to see Moulay Idriss and Volubilis, perhaps two days is a better choice.

Is Volubilis open now?
The ruins at Volubilis are open every day from sunrise to sunset. You’ll need to pay a small admission fee of 70 dirhams, and official guides are available for hire at the entrance to the complex for 120 dirhams. Alternatively, most riads and hotels in both cities offer organized tours to Volubilis.
Do you have to wear a hijab in Morocco?
Morocco is a Muslim-majority country, and you’ll find most women there dressed very modestly, usually wearing a hijab or other kind of headscarf. Female tourists to Morocco are NOT required to cover their heads, though, and I didn’t feel uncomfortable with my hair out.
