What is Astym?
Astym is a tool used to break up scar tissue and damaged soft tissue to promote regeneration of healthy tissue to improve one’s function. Scar tissue can cause muscle tension, limited flexibility, and range of motion restrictions.
Does Astym work for scar tissue?

What breaks down scar tissue?
Scar tissue is broken down within a deep tissue massage. A deep, firm pressure is used during a deep tissue massage aiming to get deeper within muscle fibres and tissues. A deep tissue massage breaks down adhesions and collagen fibres that can be caused as a result of scar tissue.
How often should you Astym?
Astym treatment is typically provided twice weekly for four to five weeks (about 9 total treatment sessions) and is done in conjunction with eccentric loading, stretching, and functional exercises.
Can you remove scar tissue?
Massage therapy can also help break up scar tissue and allow it to remodel. Scar-revision surgery: A range of surgical procedures can remove a scar, improve its appearance or transplant skin from another area (skin graft). Does Astym treatment hurt?
