What is perianal tuberculosis?
Perianal TB is an extremely rare type of extra-pulmonary TB (0.7%)[3]; however, its prevalence might be underestimated, as it can be misidentified as Crohn’s disease or other granulomatous diseases[4]. Here, we report a rare case of perianal abscess caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis (MTB).
Does TB cause sores?
Primary cutaneous inoculation with TB in a previously uninfected host will result in a TB chancre and regional lymphadenopathy. Skin lesions develop 2–3 weeks after inoculation. Gummas are subcutaneous cold abscesses that form fistulae and ulcers. They can occur on the trunk, extremities, and head.
What does a TB lesion look like?
Tuberculosis Verrucosa Cutis. The skin lesions are usually solitary and manifest as painless, violaceous or brown–red, indurated warty plaques that range from 1 to 5 cm in diameter. Although ulceration is uncommon, fissures that exude purulent drainage or keratinous material may occur.
Can TB cause a rash?
Skin – TB can cause certain rashes, including erythema nodosum – a red, lumpy rash on the legs – or lupus vulgaris which gives lumps or ulcers. Spread to many parts of the body – this is called miliary TB, and can affect many organs, including lungs, bones, liver, eyes and skin.
What is the perianal area?
Perianal: Located around the anus, the opening of the rectum to the outside of the body.
Does TB cause itching?
Mild flushing, itchiness, skin and a pale rash are often brief side effects, and are not reasons to stop your TB treatment. Occasionally these symptoms may get worse and are associated with fever. When that happens, stop all medication and let your doctor or TB case manager know as soon as possible.
Can TB affect your teeth?
Tuberculosis is a chronic, specific granulomatous disease and a major cause of death in developing countries. We report a case of tuberculosis presenting first as periodontal loss of tooth support leading to loose teeth and gingival enlargement affecting a 17-year-old female patient without any pulmonary lesion.
