Originally a side project for the blockbuster animated film Geng: The Adventure Begins, Upin & Ipin was introduced on TV9 in Malaysia and MNCTV in Indonesia on 13 September 2007 as a six episode Ramadan / Hari Raya Aidilfitri special, to teach children the significance of the Islamic holy month.
