How polluted is the Flint River?
The water in the Flint River has high levels of chlorides (thought to be the result of, in part, road salt), making it highly corrosive to lead pipes. Chlorides do not pose a direct threat to fish, wildlife, or humans, but cause problems in that they corrode lead and other metals in piping and plumbing.

Flint officials had failed to add needed corrosion controls to the river water. Lead from the city’s old pipes leached into the water, causing alarmingly high lead levels in the blood of many residents.

How old is a 700 lb alligator?
The Georgia Department of Natural Resources says a 13-foot-4-inch alligator that weighed at least 700 pounds was found in an irrigation ditch. The agency says a farmer found the male alligator near Lake Blackshear last month. The alligator was believed to be about 50 years old.
