Mr. Noordin M. Haji, CBS, OGW, was appointed the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) on the 28th March, 2018 following an interview by the Public Service Commission (PSC) and vetting by National Assembly.
Why is a file sent to the DPP?
During the course of an investigation of a serious crime, An Garda Síochána will investigate it and send a file to the Office of the DPP. The DPP will then read this file to see whether there is enough evidence to prosecute someone for the crime and what the charge should be.

The Director is appointed by the Government of Ireland, who must have at least ten years of experience as a barrister or solicitor and is appointed a civil servant.
