Is EHIC the same as E111?
The old E111 form was phased out in 2005 so you’ll need to make sure you have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). This entitles UK residents to free medical care in EU countries plus Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland for the duration of your trip.
Where can I get an e11 form from?
You can apply for an EHIC in person at your local health office, except in Dublin North West, Dublin South, Kildare and West Wicklow. The Dublin North West office only accepts applications by post. You can apply online to the other offices or by post.
Are EHIC cards still being issued?
As part of the deal announced on 24 December 2020, the UK and the EU agreed that the cards can still be used until their expiry dates. After that, the government will issue a new Global Heath Insurance Card (GHIC) which will replace the EHIC for the majority of UK citizens.
What is the new e111 called?
From 1 January 2021, the European Health Insurance Card (Ehic) is being replaced with the UK Global Health Insurance Card (Ghic) for all EU countries. If you’ve already applied or wish to apply for an Ehic, you’ll now receive the new Ghic instead in most cases. Both are valid if you’re visiting an EU country.
How long is an E111 valid for?
E111 is valid for five years from the date of issue and the expiry date will be printed on the card. If your E111 is within 6 months of expiry then you can renew it right away, you don’t have to wait until it’s expired. Any remaining entitlement will be added onto the five year validity of the new card.
How do I renew my E111 card?
If you’ve applied for your E111 online, you can then log back into the website where you originally applied for your card and ask for it to be renewed. If you can’t remember where you applied, or have forgotten the details, you can also phone the NHS Overseas Healthcare team’s helpline and ask for a new card to be sent out for you.
What is the difference between E111 and the old E111?
E111 offers each person a separate card, which is far more sensible. E111 also has a broader coverage than the old E111, as in the time since the E111 was introduced the European Economic Area has grown considerably since countries like Latvia and Bulgaria became part of the system. E111 will continue to expand as new countries join the EU.
Is it hard to get an E111 card?
Getting an E111 isn’t tricky. There are a few different options for making your application, and all have the same end result – your new cards will be sent out to you in the post. No one method is better than any other, so it’s just a case of choosing which suits you best.
