Is Glamis California Open?
While developed recreation sites are closed, dispersed camping and trails remain open and available to the public. Camping along Gecko Road and Osborne Overlook are closed, but as of now, camping is still allowed in other areas like the washes, Glamis Flats, Gordons Well and Buttercup.

Do you need a permit for Glamis?
Who needs a permit? One permit is needed per primary vehicle. A primary vehicle is any street legal vehicle used for transportation to the recreation site. A permit is required at all times while in the fee area and may be required to exit the area.
Is Glamis open year round?
The dunes are open year round, but if you value your skin you don’t want to visit the area outside of fall/winter/early spring.

Can you swim in Glamis Canal?
“The purpose of the canals is to move water from one place to another as fast as possible. It’s not for people to swim in.” The agency also erected more fencing around the canal, and partnered with the Imperial County Sheriff’s Department to inform local schools and residents about the canal’s hazards.
Do you need paddles for Glamis?
You could get around some of the smaller, flatter dunes but you will definitely miss the point of Glamis without a paddle. Unless you have ridden dunes before, it really helps to ride with some experienced dune riders, also.
Do you have to pay to go to Glamis?
Permits are required to enter the Imperial Sand Dunes (Glamis) from October 1 through April 15 each year.
Does Glamis require spark arrestor?
In addition to a vehicle permit, vehicle requirements consist of having a safety flag on all vehicles in the dunes, front and rear lighting during dark hours, brakes, muffler and/or spark arrestor, and there are maximum noise limits set based on year of vehicle manufacture.
