What does Sy stand for in cable?
steel wire braid
Origin of the name SY In CENELEC code – the European Committee for Electrotechnical Standardisation – the S in SY stands for steel wire braid, and the Y for PVC. SY Control Cable can be referred to more generally as Instrumentation Cable, Flexible or Braided Control Cable and Control Flex.
Can SY cable still be used?
Current Standards YY, SY and CY control cables are not currently recommended for use as part of a fixed installation, such as under the IET Wiring Regulations BS 7671 in the UK, therefore there is a need in the market for new standards.
How many amps can a 4mm SY cable take?
Current carrying capacity (amperes) at 30C
| Nominal cross sectional area mm 2 | Current rating Amps |

What is the difference between CY and SY cable?
The main differences between the three cables are: CY Cables – are used in environments when electrical interference free transmission is needed. SY Cables – the galvanised steel wire braid increases the mechanical protection of the cable, but offers little protection against electrical interference.
Is Sy cable compliant?
For the avoidance of doubt, SY, CY & YY cables are compliant when used appropriately in UK applications for control functions under BS EN 60204.
Is Sy cable Armoured?
SY cable is an armoured flexible control cable designed for measuring control or regulation under tough mechanical stresses. SY cable uses a galvanised steel braided multicore cable protected by a transparent sheath.
Does SY cable need to be earthed?
In order for this to be used as a screen, it must be connected to the earthing system. Most manufacturers would recommend the braid be connected to earth as standard. If it is connected to earth, then you will always screen the cable.

Where can SY cable be used?
SY cable is used to control and regulate conveyors, instrumentation, assembly lines, production lines, and similar process automation equipment. It can also regulate air conditioning systems. Process automation is the automatic control of a stage in an industrial process, such as the manufacture of a product.
What is a Sysy cable?
SY cables, also known as armoured flexible control cable, shielded flex, or simply armoured flex, are strong and durable cables suitable for internal dry, damp or wet environments (including oil-water mixtures), and can be used outdoors when protected against direct sunlight.
How many cores are available on a SY Cable?
