What is the NVC process?
After USCIS approves your petition, they will transfer your case to the Department of State’s National Visa Center (NVC) for pre-processing. The first step in this processing is the creation of your case in our system. Once this is complete, we will send you a Welcome Letter by e-mail or physical mail.

What is NVC welcome letter?
The NVC will advise you six to 12 months before your priority date is expected to be current by sending you a welcome letter. The welcome letter contains fee invoices (described below), your case number, and the invoice number. You’ll need these numbers to apply for your visa, so make a note of them.

Why is there no vegetation in the NVC?
Structural variation in vegetation is not well represented in the NVC, limiting its value as a habitat classification for invertebrates and other fauna. Other specialised habitats, such as river shingle, may have biodiversity importance but no vegetation: as such they are not covered by the NVC.
How many communities are there in the NVC?
Many, but not all, of the NVC communities are broken down further into sub-communities, which total 578 in all. A very small number of especially bulky and complex communities have a third level of sub-division, into variants.
What information is contained in the published NVC volumes?
Full descriptions of each of the NVC communities and sub-communities are contained within the published NVC volumes. They include summary information on the general species composition and appearance (physiognomy), the associated habitat, and zonation and successional characteristics.
